The Color of Love

The Color of Love image

Time: 60 minutes
Choreography: Wang Yuanyuan
Dancers: 7 female, 6 male

In 2006 the Royal Danish Ballet invited Ms. Wang Yuanyuan to choreograph The Color of Love—the first time the company had commissioned work from a Chinese choreographer. The piece explores the emotional landscape of women in their 20’s, 30’s, and 40’s, their feelings about love, sex, and family. Through different images—the gate, the bed, the roof—The Color of Love examines how women struggle with and against men to find intimacy at different stages of life, how they seek passion and trust, stability and adventure, and how these desires are frustrated or satisfied.
